Meet the Real Jesus, part 2



"Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel” (Matthew 1:20-23, ESV translation)

Let’s simply restore the hebrew names, and read it again:

‘“Yawsef, son of Dawid, do not fear to take Miryam as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from Ruach HaKodesh.
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Yeshua, for he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel” (Matthew 1:20-23)

Suddenly, this became a very Jewish story, didn’t it?  Let’s read those names now as a hebrew would, understanding their meaning.  I’ll replace the hebrew names with their meaning in english (indicating with capitol letters).  Read the Scriptures again as this passage comes alive:




‘“BE ADDED, son of BELOVED, do not fear to take BITTERNESS as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from THE HOLY SPIRIT.
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name SALVATION, for he will save his people from their sins.”
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name OUR GOD IS WITH US” (Matthew 1:20-23)

Now let’s consider one name, the name SALVATION, Yeshua.  It suddenly makes so much sense!  “His name will be SALVATION, for he will SAVE his people from their sins.”  Since ‘Jesus’ isn’t even a word in hebrew, it’s not until we consider his real name that this passage makes any sense at all.  When reading from the hebrew, I'm also struck by the word 'ammo' (his people), because in Torah, G_d refers several times to the sons of Jacob as 'Ammi' (my people).  Continuing, the passage quotes the prophet Isaiah saying that the people will call this child GOD WITH US.  Isaiah is warning Israel, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:13-14)  Interesting how the root word 'am' (ayin mem) begins the word 'Immanuel' as well... GOD WITH his PEOPLE.

Moshe (Moses), looked forward to the day of the Messiah.  And He wrote,
“The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my SALVATION {Yeshua};
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.” (Ex 15:2)

Reconsider the meaning of this passage.  Was Moshe telling us (35 centuries ago) the name of the Messiah?  Was he telling us that HaShem would condescend to the lowest place and become a man to be WITH US?  Is Moshe, the receiver of Torah, affirming ‘Yeshua, this is my God... my father’s God?’  In an ancient culture in which sons are accounted by their fathers, could Yeshua be the one seed not of a man, but of a woman, fulfilling the prophecy, “I will put enmity between you and the woman (singular), and between your seed and her seed (singular); he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel,” (Gen 3:15)?
